Part of this is knowing our landscape. believe housing has homes across County Durham, from the very rural west, through the hustle and bustle of Durham city centre, to the magnificent coastline in the east.
We also offer a small number of homes outside the county, across the north east.
With our diverse setting, we place a great amount of emphasis on providing an affordable housing service that fits local housing needs.
We advertise all of our County Durham properties on the Durham Key Options (DKO) website.
DKO is a lettings scheme for homes across the county, which allows your to bid for a property of your choice giving you more choice and involvement in choosing where you want to live.
To apply for a home with us and bid on a property you must first register with DKO.

Sunderland: To apply for a Sunderland Council Housing Service home you must be active on the Council Housing Register. To apply you must complete the housing application form.

That’s why we’re delivering a variety of affordable housing across the region.
We provide high-quality affordable new homes in villages across County Durham and have firm plans to deliver more than 1,250 new homes by 2026.
We also offer a small range of Rent to Buy homes.
Rent to Buy is a scheme which allows working households to rent a home at an Intermediate Rent providing them the opportunity to save for a deposit to then buy their first home.
Tenants are eligible to purchase the home if they have been able to save the deposit required and secure a mortgage.
The believe housing Rent to Buy scheme is designed to help people who can’t currently afford to buy or rent suitable accommodation on the open market, providing them with the future opportunity of owning their own home.
