Jack Beckwith from believe housing has been named the ‘Young Energy Management Professional’ of the year by a leading professional body in the sector.
Jack is an Environmental Officer at the County Durham-based housing association. He impressed judges at the Energy Managers Association with the tangible improvements he is delivering for customers and habitats across the region.
An Oxford graduate, Jack has been working in housing for only three years but has already made a substantial impact. He is working on projects like upgrading existing homes to cut emissions and save families hundreds of pounds per year on their energy bills.
Jack’s manager, Andrea Baxter, said: “We’re really proud of his achievement, but not entirely surprised. Jack is one of the most passionate environmentalists you could meet anywhere.
“Even in his own home he is constantly looking to reduce emissions and go further to protect the environment, so when he speaks to our customers his genuine knowledge and understanding comes across straight away.”
When believe housing became the first organisation of its type to achieve the Carbon Neutral International Standard and the United Nations Climate Neutral Now initiative participation, Jack was also involved with the work.
“Even being shortlisted felt like an achievement, but to win the award is amazing,” Jack said.
“Work like this is never complete, but to have the efforts we’re making to protect the environment recognised in this way is very rewarding. We’re really getting our teeth into some big improvements that will help customers and the world around us, so the future looks exciting. I’m looking forward to seeing what we can achieve, both for the environment and for our residents and communities, as there are many other benefits from our work too.”
