New kitchens and bathrooms are being installed in hundreds of believe housing homes.
Alongside this, many of the same homes are getting full rewires to make sure their electrics are kept up to date and compliant.
The County Durham-based housing association has partnered with regeneration and construction specialist RE:GEN Group on the scheme, which will see internal improvements made to about 800 homes during this financial year.
After completing improvements to the 500th home, members of the team visited happy customers Mary and John Mordue, of Witton Gilbert, to see how they found the work.
Mary said: “We’re very satisfied. We got to pick the grey and cream kitchen, the flooring in the bathroom, and they put a shower in which we didn’t have before.
“They’re absolutely beautiful and the workers from believe housing and RE:GEN were all so nice, so respectful of us and our home.
“We’ve been in this home over 50 years and this work has made a real difference. We knew the rewire was needed, so to get it at the same time as the kitchen and bathroom has made the little bit of upheaval worthwhile.”
David Taylor, Assistant Director of Major Works at believe housing, and Heather Miller, Lead Customer Experience Coordinator at RE:GEN Group, presented the couple with a luxury food hamper to thank them for allowing access to their home so the work could go so smoothly.
David said: “One of the areas of work we are focusing on this financial year is improving the interiors of homes, particularly in the central part of County Durham.
“The teams have worked extremely hard to deliver at a pace, starting work in 20 homes a week and achieving 500 before the Christmas break.
“By combining rewires with kitchen and bathroom upgrades we are minimising disruption for customers, so they get the modern facilities they want and we can keep their homes safe.
“This, along with the professional and considerate way RE:GEN colleagues work and how we work efficiently as one team, is why customers are telling us they are extremely satisfied with the work.”
Heather added: “Mary and John have been a pleasure to work alongside and we’re all just so happy they’re satisfied with the works and can tell others how positive their experience has been.
“We understand refurbishment works can at times be disruptive, but this is an example of how when we work together and build a relationship with customers, that the result is 100% worth it. A great job by all involved – roll on the rest!”
